Primary Standards Calibration

The calibration of primary standards is the heart of our calibration laboratory. All calibrations are performed in our NVLAP accredited 10,000 ft2 environmentally-controlled metrology laboratory, maintained at 21.5°C (±0.5°C) and 40% RH (±5%) to maintain accurate and repeatable results. Our NIST trained staff calibrate primary standards using NIST-certified fixed point cells for maximum accuracy and repeatability and the lowest uncertainties.

Three Levels of Calibration Certifications

We recognize that calibration needs and compliance requirements vary among our customers and within our industry. Masy has developed three levels of service for calibration certificates to meet those varied needs and has the experience to help you navigate these options.

LEVEL 1- Accredited Certificate with Guardbanding

  • ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Accredited through NVLAP (NVLAP lab code 200904-0)
  • Includes Guardbanding and false accept risk ≤2%
  • Includes Measurement Uncertainties
  • Includes a statement of conformity (ie: Pass, Fail, Pass Indeterminate, Fail Indeterminate)
  • In accordance with ILAC G8 methodologies

LEVEL 2- Accredited Certificate

  • ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Accredited through NVLAP (NVLAP lab code 200904-0)
  • Includes Measurement Uncertainties
  • Does not include a statement of conformity (ie: Pass, Fail, Pass Indeterminate, Fail Indeterminate will not be designated on calibration certificate)
  • Customer determines Pass / Fail

LEVEL 3- Non-Accredited Certificate

  • ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System
  • NON-ACCREDITED

Difference

Our development of best practices allows our labs to attain the lowest uncertainties in the industry. In addition, Masy metrology laboratories continuously meet the rigorous qualifications for NVLAP accreditation to ISO 17025 for an unbiased third-party evaluation and recognition of our performance (NVLAP lab code 200904-0). NVLAP-accredited laboratories are assessed against the management and technical requirements published in ISO/IEC 17025—the international standard used to accredit testing and calibration laboratories.

To further our distinction, Masy is one of the few Temperature and Echelon II Metrology Labs in North America that meet the rigorous qualifications for NVLAP accreditation (NVLAP lab code 200904-0). We have eight fixed-points temperature calibration standards (fixed point cells include Argon, Mercury, Triple Point of Water, Gallium, Indium, Tin, Zinc and Aluminum) and state-of-the-art calibration technology so you receive minimal measurement uncertainty for your primary standards and laboratory instruments. Mass calibrations are performed in a Class 10,000 Clean Room with seismically isolated mass comparators. All primary mass and weight standards are calibrated by NIST to ensure traceability and repeatability. 

Our 11,000 ft2 labs meet critical temperature and humidity parameters and utilize the most advanced technology and equipment ensuring industry excellence. Every calibration is traceable to the International Standard of Units (SI) through the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) or other national metrology institutes.

Only the highest caliber processes and procedures are acceptable at Masy yielding the highest quality calibration services available. For example, we personally hand carry our fixed point temperature and mass standards to NIST headquarters in Gaithersburg, MD for calibration, which significantly contributes to the lowest uncertainties and greater precision for every calibration we perform.

Our external proficiency tests examine our processes and standards compared to industry colleagues. These outcomes consistently showcase our exceptional abilities and affirm our position is 100% on-target when juxtaposed to the industry at large. Regular internal audits monitor all facets of our processes and our quality system is routinely audited by customers.

Our Senior Metrologist is NIST trained and many of our Quality staff are also certified through American Society for Quality (ASQ). They have completed the required training and earned the following certifications: ASQ-CMQ/OE, ASQ-CQA and ASQ-CQT.
