cGMP Validation Thermocouple Assemblies
Thermocouples are devices that use the thermoelectric effect of two dissimilar conductors to measure temperature. The predictable and repeatable thermoelectric properties of specific alloys make them useful for measuring temperature across different ranges and in various environmental conditions. Thermocouples are a traditional tool used in the accurate validation of environmental chambers, freezers, autoclaves, and other analytical and processing equipment in the biopharma industries.
Masy BioServices' thermocouples are specifically designed for validation and thermal mapping. We offer thermocouples made from ultra-premium select grade wire - the highest purity and uniformity available in the industry, with accuracy ± 0.18°C at 0°C - to help ensure the quality and accuracy of your thermal measurement.
Type T Thermocouples
Type T thermocouples, using copper and constantan, are used in oxidizing, inert or dry reducing atmospheres, or in vacuums. They are highly resistant to corrosion from atmospheric moisture and condensation, and exhibit high stability at low temperature. Type T thermocouples are suited for measurements from -200°C to 350°C.
Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) Insulated Thermocouples
FEP insulated thermocouples are fabricated with tips that are heat shrunk to seal the sensor tip from the environment and media, extending the sensor's life. FEP insulated thermocouples are suited for temperature mapping in freezers, refrigerators, incubators, stability chambers and any steam application (steam-in-place, autoclaves).
FEP insulated thermocouples are available in two gauge weights:
Heavy Gauge (22 AWG)
- Temperature rating: -200°C to 200°C
- Applications: cold rooms, stability rooms, steam sterilizers, autoclaves, fermentors, steam-in-place, vessels, and tanks
Thin Gauge (28 AWG)
- Temperature rating: -200°C to 200°C
- Applications: incubators, stability chambers, refrigerators, freezers, cryogenic storage, fermentors, steam-in-place, vessels, and tanks
Kapton® Insulated Thermocouples
Kapton is a polyimide film that remains stable across a wide range of temperatures. Kapton insulated thermocouples are designed for dry-heat applications only; a 304 stainless tip is installed to prevent unraveling of the Kaplon coating. Kapton thermocouples are available in 22AWG only and can be used continuously at temperature up to 300°C (short-term exposure up to 350°C limited to 6 hours). These thermocouples work well in depyrogenation ovens and dry heat ovens.
Customized Validation Thermocouple Harnesses
Masy BioServices can create custom, pre-assembled thermocouple harnesses for your specific needs. Thermocouples can be cut to length, tipped (FEP only), harnessed in bundles of 12, and individually labeled with steam-resistant, high-visibility numeric labels at both ends. Label options include EZ-Read numeric label flags for greater visibility or smaller-profile shrink labels. Need to place your thermocouples in closed systems, such as autoclaves or steam-in-place applications? We offer stainless steel feed-through assemblies that maintain the integrity of your operation while allowing for the convenient passage of thermocouple wires. NPT to sanitary adapters, quick disconnects, strain reliefs, and other accessories are available to help your place your thermocouples accurately and securely.
Masy BioServices thermocouples can be calibrated pre-run and post-run, saving you the expense of temperature standards and baths, and confirming the integrity of your temperature measurements.
Initial Pre-Run Calibrations
- Automatic: low, high and check in range of -30°C to 140°C or 30°C to 300°C (Kapton only). Additional checks available.
- Manual: low -196°C, high 0°C to 300°C (Kapton only), and check -30°C to 140°C or check -80°C. Additional checks available.
Final Post-Run Calibrations
- Manual: checks at -196°C, -80°C and/or within range -30°C to 300°C (Kapton only).
